What does it cover?

This course is a fantastic umbrella of Early Years maths in its many practical applications. Any practitioners working with children aged 2 to 5 will benefit from it.

Children engage mathematically with the world through objects, physical experiences, and games with others.

This course is two hours packed full of real-life activities, resources and games that are easy to create, imaginative, inspirational, and mostly importantly have a big impact on learning.

It is all ‘hands-on’. Be prepared to try things out, engage with numerous real-life resources, and play a range of exciting games and activities. 

What is its aim?

This course will bring life, imagination and creativity to your maths provision. It will make mathematical learning fun and as play-based as possible. Many of the activities are open-ended and can be child-led. 

This course will empower practitioners with a new tool-bag of tried and tested games and activities. It is great to see that maths can be fun, simple and engaging.

You will come away with numerous ideas to enhance provision and the environment, and develop adult-led strategies inside and out.

What is its content?

A sneaky peak inside the course:

We attempt numerous engaging activities with playdough, for example the fantastic Splat the Playdough game, which can help explore number bonds, subtraction, 1:1 counting and patterns. Other playdough games explore 2D and 3D shapes, counting, problem solving, calculating and number bonds. 

We explore exciting mathematical activities in continuous provsion, for example using bubbles for counting and talking about size. 

We explore a range of fine motor maths resources and games. These interweave essential finger and hand skills, alongside developing key mathematical skills such as counting, more and less. The element of healthy competition gives these games an exciting allure that makes them particularly boy-friendly.

We explore the foundations of using strategies and resources that can be used higher up in school. For example, we look at home-made Early Years counting sticks, and ways of using them with simple counting songs, stories and counting games with puppets. We also look at lego maths and some simple fun games to play with lego that aid mathematical development. 

This course also looks at maths through stories and the impact counting and calculating in books has on mathematical understanding. There are numerous strategies, such as story-pictures on a counting stick, number stones, and maths pictures linked to stories. 

Along the way we also look at many DIY maths resources for your provision, such as mini washing-lines, and balancing eyeballs.

Prices For Inhouse Courses

All of our courses are available as inhouse training sessions, delivered in an identical way to the open training courses. Sessions normally last 2 hours, although they could be shortened or lengthened depending on your needs. Courses could be delivered to a very small number of staff, or for as many as you like. The courses work really well as twilights because they are fun, practical and hands-on, the perfect formula for practitioners that will have been working all day. We can deliver all courses as INSET days, school staff meetings, or nursery twilights.

Price for a 2 hour training session after school/twilight – £275 (+VAT)

Price for a 2 hour training session in morning or afternoon – £325 (+VAT)

Full day inhouse training session – £550 (+VAT)

This price includes up to 20 staff. After this there is an extra charge of £15 a head. 

There is a £50 charge for training courses that take place more than a 1 hour drive from the trainer’s residence. There is a £125 charge for training taking place more than a 2 hour drive from the trainer’s residence. These charges are just for travel and potential hotel costs.
